Thoughts on : International Klein Blue

Many refer to it as a hue in its own right, however it is in fact a paint. International Klein Blue (IKB) or Yves Klein Blue was developed in late 50’s by artist Yves Klein in collaboration with Edouard Adam, a Parisian paint supplier. IKB relies heavily on ultramarine pigment, however IKB uses a clear, matte, synthetic resin binder which does not dull individual pigment particles, but leaves them with their original vivid hue. Really blue became...like... really really blue. Klein created endless pieces with IKB but not exclusively. With the rise of screen use we see images made of light, not pigments, and so we see the hue all the time. Taking for granted that most people haven’t seen BLUE blue until about 60 years ago. If there were a colour to describe the internet it might be IKB - the colour of hypertext links.
